On February 10, the Cluster Catalonia Logistics, together with our members, took part in the event organized by Meridiana at the WTC Barcelona, where the role of Barcelona as an international logistics hub and the main challenges facing the sector in the current global context were analyzed.
Under the premise that “volatility is no longer occasional but structural, and it forces supply chains to be redesigned”, the event brought together experts and professionals to reflect on the new European logistics landscape and the strategies needed to ensure competitiveness.
Our General Manager, Marta Losada Martín, moderated the first panel discussion, “Shippers first: resilience, visibility and sustainability in the new supply chain”, which featured Andreu Gutiérrez, Country Sales Director at Rhenus Logistics, Romina La Forgia Flórez, Warehouse Manager for Raw Materials (BCN) at Coca-Cola, Joan Lluís Rubio López, Marketing and Sustainability Director at Ader Supergroup and Marc Vilà Renaud, Director of Infrastructure, Energy and Circular Economy at Mercabarna.
During the debate, it became clear how companies are responding to current supply chain challenges, highlighting the key role of digitalization and technology as competitiveness drivers. The importance of sustainability embedded in day-to-day operations was also emphasized, along with the concept of “coopetition”, cooperation between companies to enhance competitiveness, which is increasingly seen as essential.
The second panel focused on Barcelona’s ability to compete internationally, highlighting its main assets such as the Port de Barcelona, the airport, and nearby logistics zones, while also identifying key challenges such as improving intermodality and the availability of logistics land.
Speakers in this session included Carles Rua, Director of Innovation at the Port de Barcelona, Enric Pons, Project Manager at the CETMO, Pere Carbonés, Director of European Traffic at Calsina Carré, and Andreu Araqué, Co-founder and CEO of Hedyla.
The discussion concluded that Barcelona has a strong foundation to consolidate itself as a leading European logistics hub, but that stronger collaboration and greater system efficiency will be required. From the Cluster Catalonia Logistics, we would like to thank Meridiana for organizing a key event to share knowledge and drive a more competitive and sustainable logistics sector.
