From the Cluster Catalonia Logistics, we participated in the discussion “Logistics in Catalonia: A Success Story with Titanic Challenges”, with contributions from our director, Marta Losada Martín, along with Ignasi Sayol, Eduard Ayach, and Pere Navarro Morera.
The session highlighted the role of Catalonia as one of the main logistics hubs in southern Europe, with a significant impact on the economy, representing around 11% of GDP and generating approximately €30 billion. This positioning reinforces the region’s strategic role in the management and distribution of goods across different modes of transport, in a context of sustained growth driven by e-commerce and the transformation of supply chains.
Beyond this positioning, the discussion also provided an opportunity to delve deeper into the sector’s main challenges, particularly the need to attract and retain talent in a highly competitive and rapidly evolving environment. In this regard, Marta Losada Martín emphasized the importance of adapting the sector to new social and labor realities, stating: “We must be able to bring women into this sector, and to do so, we need to adapt the sector’s reality—not so much for physical reasons, but for logistical ones”.
This reflection is part of the broader challenge of modernizing the logistics sector, making it more inclusive, attractive, and better prepared to face the challenges of digitalization, sustainability, and the recruitment of specialized talent, key elements to ensure future competitiveness.
From the Cluster Catalonia Logistics, we will continue to actively participate in discussion forums like this, which allow us to share perspectives, identify common challenges, and strengthen Catalonia’s role as a key logistics hub in Europe.
