We took part in the panel discussion at SIL Barcelona: "Sustainability is no longer optional: How can we stay competitive?"

Abril Plasencia Queralt,

Our general manager, Marta Losada Martin, took part in one of the roundtable discussions held at SIL Barcelona 2026 under the title “Sustainability is no longer optional: How can we stay competitive?”, a forum for reflection that highlighted the profound transformation currently taking place across the logistics sector.

The session, moderated by the General Manager of the Catalonia Logistics Cluster, featured the participation of Álvaro Benítez, Director of Transformation and Alliances at Impulso by Pons, Kiko Montoro, representative of Som Ecologística, Toni Nieto, Cluster Manager at Mercabarna, and Xavier Ribas, General Manager of Evarm. Together, they provided complementary perspectives on the challenges and opportunities that sustainability presents for the logistics industry.

A key takeaway from the discussion was the shared view that sustainability is no longer an optional consideration but has become a structural factor in business competitiveness.

In this regard, participants highlighted how sustainability is increasingly being integrated across organizations, moving beyond the scope of corporate social responsibility to become a cross-cutting element that influences decision-making at every level. The accelerating role of regulation was also emphasized, as it continues to steer the sector in a common direction and shape corporate strategies.

The discussion also underscored that competing solely on price is becoming less viable in a context of rising energy costs. Instead, greater importance is being placed on adaptability, operational efficiency, and the resilience of logistics systems.

Looking ahead, participants agreed on several key priorities for the coming years: the need for stronger energy infrastructure to support electrification, the development of more efficient multimodal logistics networks, the gradual expansion of low-emission vehicles, and the further advancement of cycle logistics as an integrated solution within supply chains.

From the Catalonia Logistics Cluster, we would like to thank SIL Barcelona for inviting us to participate, as well as all the speakers for their valuable insights and contributions throughout the session. Their reflections clearly highlighted the importance of continuing to work towards a more sustainable, efficient, and competitive logistics model.
